Ang Cheng Shin, Kelvin Spinal Muscular Dystrophy

Spinal muscular dystrophy changed Kelvin’s life when he was only 11. Walking and even swallowing became difficult for him and he had to be wheelchair-bound. Kelvin’s affliction has not deterred his imagination and creativity, as he is now working as a web designer and digital artist at SPD’s Multimedia Centre.

 

 

 

 

Lim Suat Hua, Shirnar Hypertension Stroke

For Shirnar, hypertension stroke has not restricted her passion for Digital Art as a means to unleash her creativity. In the process of working with colors, shapes, light, shadows, Shirnar crafts her work by means of heightening her senses and vice-versa. Shirnar hopes that her art could become a platform through which her viewer's imaginations are led to fathom unlimited depths of discovery.

 

 

 

 

 

Ng Wei Han, George Hemiplegia

George’s schooling life was unexpectedly put to a halt when he was diagnosed with a large intracerebral haematoma in 2001 and had to undergo brain surgery. An avid interest in travel and photography inspired him to pick up Digital Art at SPD’s Multimedia Centre, where he is now a web designer and digital artist.

 

 

 

 

 

Norsilawati Binte Sa'at Spinal Cord Injury

Diagnosed with spinal cord injury after a road traffic accident in 2001, Norsilawati became paralysed in both her lower and upper limbs. Norsilawati joined SPD’s Multimedia Centre in March 2004 for vocational training as a data management trainee, working on commercial projects. Norsilawati hopes that the symmetry of her Digital Fractal Art would move her audience and at the same time, invite them to contemplate the beauty of the core of her artwork.

 

 

 

 

 

Salimah Bte Ishak Tetraplegia

Salimah’s creations are closely inspired by her passion for life and her immediate environment – being Tetraplegic has certainly not diminished her sensitivity towards things around her, as her digital art would testify.

 

 

 

 

 

See Tho Kok Wah, Martin Machado Joseph Disease

Martin was inflicted with a rare genetic disease of the cerebellum known as the Machado-Joseph Disease, causing him to lose his sense of balance, speech and muscular coordination gradually. Martin’s condition has led him to express himself through Digital Art - to understand his art pieces would be akin to understanding the totality of his thoughts. Martin’s works may very well delimit the mind and free the imagination. Martin hopes that his works would bring joy to those who look at them.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tan Wei Qiang, Jovin Cerebral Palsy

Born with cerebral palsy, Jovin dispels the common perception of physically challenged people as inactive and introverted. Besides being an active sportsman in his own right – coming in top at sailing competitions held internationally, Jovin also enjoys expressing himself through Digital Art, a medium which he picked up at the SPD Multimedia Centre.

 

 

 

 

 

Tiew Ee Chih, Benson Spinal Cord Injury

A traffic accident four years ago paralysed Benson waist down and almost stopped him in his tracks. Benson displayed courage with his condition and joined SPD’s Multimedia Centre, picking up computing skills in the creation of Digital Art and renewing his understanding of life in the meantime.

 

 

 

 

 

Yeo Jie Wee Muscular Dystrophy

Diagnosed with muscular dystrophy when he was 12 years old, Jie Wee went to a special school and in 2004, joined the SPD. At SPD’s Multimedia Centre, Jie Wee was able to pick up many basic computer skills through the training provided and he is currently working as a web designer and digital artist.
